About Cherie Duty

Cherie has adopted the ancient art form of encaustic as her primary medium for her artistic endeavors. She fell in love with the art form twenty years ago and never looked back. "Encaustic has a mind of its own, and it sometimes decides to be wild and unpredictable. Learning to tame the wild has been twenty years of pure joy."

Her work is built layer upon layer, the vibrancy of pigmented bees-wax and the movement achieved through heat is a unique composition that contributes to the work as a whole. Cherie takes advantage of the organic qualities of encaustic with its mirror-like sheen, movement, and pliability. Her surfaces sometimes glisten with exuberant color and locomotion, as well as the occasional mysterious fog reminiscent of a memory. Though both styles are very different subjectively, they both project a spirit of optimism with an acknowledgment to experimentation and revelation.

 Cherie lives and works in Steamboat Springs with her husband and two sons.
